How to care for windshield wipers
It’s important to promptly remove even the tiniest grains of sand from your windshield wiper blades. Wiping with sand particles embedded in the blades is akin to using a grinding wheel to rub against the rubber—before long, the blades will become riddled with scratches, lose their smoothness, and end up so rough that they can no longer effectively clear away rainwater. Therefore, every time you wash your car, be sure to take matters into your own hands: use a clean towel to carefully remove any tiny sand particles from the wiper blades, because car washers won’t bother cleaning your wiper blades for you. Additionally, when parking your car during summer, try to avoid exposing it to direct sunlight as much as possible, since rubber products are sensitive to direct UV radiation and tend to age and harden over time.
If you find that your windshield wipers aren't wiping cleanly, in most cases, the cause is roughness on the rubber blades due to improper maintenance—even though the rubber itself hasn't actually aged or become hard. All you need to do is find a way to smooth out those rough rubber blades.
Also, do not use the windshield wipers when the window glass is dry or covered with obstructions such as mud clumps, hardened bird droppings, or other debris. If your vehicle has been parked for an extended period, the wiper blades’ “rubber blades” may become aged and hardened, hindering their proper operation. It’s recommended to replace the wiper blades.
If, while driving, sand and gravel kicked up by the vehicle ahead collide with the windshield, causing dents and unevenness on the glass surface, this can also lead to a deterioration in wiper performance. Such damage is difficult to repair; in severe cases, the only solution is to replace the windshield. Therefore, when driving at high speeds, try to avoid following large trucks closely—especially those carrying sand and gravel.
To ensure effective wiping and cleaning performance, we recommend that car owners use glass cleaner produced by reputable manufacturers rather than plain water. This is because professional glass cleaners contain ingredients that dissolve oil stains and improve the wetting properties of the glass surface.
